A Question For Pastors

What do you think would happen if your church became aware that you were not going to stipulate a dress standard any longer nor would you react negatively no matter how the saints dressed?

They'd think I had gone charismatic.

LOL... good answer.

But let me clarify my question a little.

What would change in the way the church members live their lives if they knew that you would no longer stipulate and enforce a dress code.

What percentage of them would continue with no change in your opinion?

What percentage of them would begin to make changes?

What would you expect those changes to be?

I think they pretty much all would continue with no change. If there was a change, it'd more likely be them changing churches.

Not that I ENFORCE a dress code, so to speak. But that's just how everybody believes it, and they would not go for changing that.

I would like to ask a similar yet different question. This one is for those UPC pastors who do NOT preach those holiness standards.

What do you think would happen if you started preaching them?

What percentage of your congregation would you lose?

Re: A Question For Pastors

We run about 1000 between our two congregations. Our pastor was talking with several other ministers and standards came up. He started telling them what he thinks and feels about it and one of them told him, 'No wonder you have such a large group, I would too if I talked like that over my platform." Our pastor told him, "You would have a church that size if you just started loving the people you have and not tear them down so much." He didn't seem to like that remark very well.
