Yes it's common.
There's a few reasons a Pastor or Church might do this.
For instance, in Illnois, if the car is in the Church name then no tax has to be paid on/for the vehicle. That is not the case everywhere. Thats one reason it can be in the Church's name. (This would be one of the main reasons that a car is titled in a Church's name)
Different Churches have different ways of taking care of their Pastors. Rather than take a larger salary the Pastor might be compensated by the Church paying for his car.
