I Peter 2:13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; I Peter 2:14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. I Peter 2:15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: I Peter 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. I Peter 2:17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Yeah, the title of this thread really doesn't have anything to do with the content....
I agree--maybe the title should be changed to something relevant, like: Deranged Baptist Pastor Prays for Obama to Die
No way would anyone on this forum (that I know of) agree with something like that--no matter what kind of Pelosi jokes they've been chortling about.
NOW is stretching a LooooooOOOOOooooong way to make the connection. If the title were changed, maybe we could actually discuss the VIDEO and Pastor without the distraction of people defending Pelosi jokes.

Oh, I see how it could be taken either way, now. Hopefully he meant it the way you took it!
That's the way I understood it, although a clearer understanding of the term "right-winger" might be valuable. In my mind, I see a difference between a "Conservative", and a "Right-winger."
That is absolutely sickening. What a reproach to Christianity! And it IS frightening as well.
However, to compare such serious, purposeful threats and statements to political jokes is just silly. I didn't read a joke about Pelosi dying, and I'm sure that would be inappropriate, but the editorials and jokes fly from both camps. It isn't even in the same LEAGUE as straight out death threats and twisted, unchristian behavior like this pastor is illustrating.
What is it about the Baptist churches that keep going all OT on people? Good grief! (Like the Westboro Baptist Church....)
I do think it would behoove us to watch our tongues when it comes to the President, because his security (like that of any other world leader) is and should be taken seriously. Words do have meaning, and Christians of all people should know that and care about what affect they have on others with what they say.
What bothers me the MOST, other than the potential threat on the life of the President, is the fact that he makes ALL Christians look bad (in the eyes of the world) with his stupidity and evil rhetoric. The reporter is also exactly right on this point--the pastor could incite someone else to violence, especially someone who doesn't have everything connected properly upstairs.
Believe it or not, I totally agree. They are very different. But two things: I'm guessing that if Steven Anderson were to be asked, "Would you like to walk up to the president and kill him", he would say, "No." I might be wrong.
But secondly, while I realize joking and blatant threats are different, they're nudging into the same mine field. I think it's wise for us all to stay completely away from any kind of "foolish jesting", the bible calls it. I can't imagine Jesus joking or the Apostle Paul joking about the potential death of one of the political leaders of their day.

Yes, it's different, but I think it's too close.
I'm going to agree that we should watch what we say. That's just a good, Christian practice. Also, we should be careful what we say in front of our children. (Even teenagers.) Children don't always have the maturity to sort through what is a joke and what is serious or even only half serious, and can be incited to zeal we don't intend.
I still think you should change the name of the thread.

this is rhetoric that right wingers have in their heart that spew venom against our nation's leader
Absolutely not true. I don't like his policies or those of his entire party. I hope to see him, Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid all run out of Washington on a rail. But I have never wished him , his or them any personal harm.
Thus your own rhetoric and judgements are just plain clueless.
That guy is a whack job who is completely irresponsible and should be placed under close scrutiny by the secret service.
And he should also be billed for the taxpayer dollars spent investigating his nonsense.
