Ive listened to both arguments, but the fact remains it was fermented in some way.
My family comes from Italy, my cousin recently went and told me that in the place she was, wine was free served with the meal and water was to purchase. Now, the wine they gave the guests had little to no fermentation to it, but none the less it was there. Thats there culture, and thats one thing we have to understand or I have to understand. Today and in the time of Jesus there culture was not my culture. To go to someone’s house and refuse to eat or drink what they put in front of you was considered an offense.
When Jesus made the statement comparing the accusations they made against him. He said the son of man came eating and drinking. What’s the big deal with eating or drinking? Dealing with the drinking part, if it was just water, then there would be no reason to be called a winebibber. But as Jesus ate at sinners home and they gave him to eat and drink, he ate what was put in front of him, otherwise he would’ve been an offense to those he was reaching for.
I do believe Jesus drank wine, now we do not know the level of the fermentation that was in that wine. But like the evangelist said, Keifer has alcohol in it, NyQuil has alcohol in it.
1 Corinthians 10:23 KJVS

People will always take it further, thats human nature.
The culture when Jesus walked the earth is definitely not the culture today. So, if a saint wants to venture and start drinking wine for dinner or for communion then thats between them and God.

I understand. Yet, when it comes down to it you’ll have to understand they did in fact drink wine. If it wasn’t then it shouldn’t be called that.
There are absolutes in the word, Like it or not, drinking wine is not an absolute. However, getting drunk is an absolute, yet, Paul said not to be given to MUCH wine. He told Timothy, take a LITTLE wine for thy stomachs sake. If drinking wine at all was an “absolutely not”, then Paul shouldn’t say “much” or “little”. You may say, that’s ridiculous, yet what about the absolute of adultery? Is there anywhere in the word that allows you to oust after a women just a little, or not much?
There are something that I have been taught in the ultra con (conservative) camp that I have to see if this was ever rooted for the word or doctrine of man.

Had a pastor state that the wine for the stomachs sake was to treat an external wound

I’ve read all through this thread , this post hits a truth that slips by so many and is a big problem in churches. Folks seem to just let obvious truth slip right by , often for so many years that they become sort of programmed only to hear things that support what they already believe. Thanks for this post. Simple truth can be so sobering.

What about those of us who are opposed to all of it? Is it now okay for me to against drinking alcohol?
What's the problem with "whataboutism", there's always bound to be someone who rejects either option.

You personally can be against anything, doesn't mean others have to or that God is.
