Are we the bride of Christ?

"and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

Quote from Genesis 3:16

I have noticed that ladies specially have a desire to please their husbands and for their relationship to be good. We need to have that kind of desire for the God that we serve. He doesn't leave dirty clothes on the floor and make dumb
decisions like some of us men folks. He is much more desirable.

1Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. 2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Cor 11:1-2

Re: Are we the bride of Christ?

I dont think we are officially married to Jesus quite yet on an individual level. We are in the engagement process. We are still vulnerable to falling away from the body on an individual level. I believe the actual marriage will be held after the rapture and the saved(collectively) are officially "joined to Jesus Christ". The passage that Michael has posted above should bring more clarity.

At some point after the rapture, this glorious event will occur as a celebration and completion(culmination) of the marriage.......
Rev.19: 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.(This event is undeniably true)

Re: Are we the bride of Christ?

1 Let not your heart be troubled:ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions:if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

It is neat how our Lord's return is so synonymous with the betrothal process in their day.

Re: Are we the bride of Christ?

That depends....

Are we "espoused... to one husband"? Are we a 'chaste virgin to Christ"?

2Co 11:2
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Are we wise enough to have oil in our lamps? (The Holy Spirit)

Mat 25:4
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Are we ready to meet our Bridegroom?

Mat 25:10
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Are we presented to him as holy, without spot or wrinkle?

Eph 5:27
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Are we married to Christ and Christ alone?
Are we bringing forth fruit (proof) that we are faithful to Him?

Rom 7:4
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Re: Are we the bride of Christ?

The theme of the bride has been there since the beginning.
When God made Adam fall asleep and out of this side created a woman.
When Jesus died (slept) and out of his side came out water and blood.

The story of Isaac and Rebecca
The story of Jacob and Rachel.
and many more, all those are types of Christ and the church.

We are currently the bride, the marriage began on Pentecost and continues today.

Brother, please consider post #3, to clarify, the Church as a whole is the bride, but the wedding is not until Rev 19.
Matt. 25 shows 5 virgins to not be ready to go with the groom. We wont actually be married to Jesus until Rev. 19:7. We must die or be "caught away" first to be at the scene of Rev. 19. Even you and I could be left behind by the bridegroom if we lose our walk with God. There will not be any divorces from the Lord in eternity, but we as His espoused, can stain our robes with sin. He is our "spouse" to us individually, like Mary was espoused to Joseph, but not yet married....

For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
