The Bride of Christ
Most teach that the bride of Christ is the church. But how does that teaching fit with the following scripture?
Rev 21:9-11
9 And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I shall show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."
10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
11 having the glory of God. Her brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper. (NAS)
If you read the rest of the chapter it continually speaks only of this city and people don't come into play until verse 24. However, when the people come into play they are inhabitants of this city.
what say you?

Re: The Bride of Christ
I reposted this in the Eschatology Debate in the Debate room as that is where it should be. Sorry for the duplication, but I wasn't sure how to move it after I posted it.

Re: The Bride of Christ
Revelations is packed with verse, phrases, and words, that when taken literally , will provide a much different picture. So much symbolic stuff in der!

The river of life flows from the throne of God and the lamb as Jesus said he SHED FORTH the Holy Ghost when he sat on the throne of David, the right hand throne of God.
The city has 12 foundations with the names of the apostles, as Paul said the CHURCH is set upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
The resurrected lamb approaches the throne of the Father where none else could enter as the high priest of old entered the holiest with the blood of atonement.
Seven trumpets are blown and destroy creation just as Joshua's seven ram's horns were blown to destroy Jericho.
Euphrates is dried up to let kings of the east attack, just as Euphrates was dried up in Daniel's day when Belshazzar's feast was interrupted by the Medes attacking.
On and on we could go. The whole book is a symbolic set of pictures taken from the rest of the bible to show the changeover from Law to Grace and to Jesus Christ!
...for the record.

What's wrong? Putting all the focus upon the cross and the work of Jesus in changing things from law to grace is a bad thing???
It's all nothing but Christ and Him crucified!

Re: The Bride of Christ
If Israel is the bride of the Father,
and the church is the bride of the Son,
who is the bride of the Holy Ghost, or doesn't He have a bride?
