Luke 11:1-4: "And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."
Jesus said, "When ye pray." This is not a sinner's prayer. This is a prayer Jesus is teaching His Disciples. "Forgive us our sins."
1 John 5:16-17: "If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death."
Christians sin.
1 John 1:7-9: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
"If we say that we
have no sin, we deceive ourselves."
Present tense. That is not speaking of past sins from before we are walking in the light. This is speaking of the present.
Don't deceive yourself, Mike. Christians (even you) sin. What matters is that we don't continue in sin, but that we confess and repent of the sin and remove it from our lives.
Now, you can overcome sin and temptation. But to claim you're perfect is only deceiving yourself.
