Praise Report
A couple of weeks ago I had some chest pains and a tightening feeling in the throat for short periods over several days. I didn't know if it was indigestion, acid reflux, tension, or problems with my heart. In September 1995 I had quadruple bypass surgery. I called my cardiologist and the nurse scheduled me for a nuclear stress test on Wednesday August 1. After playing telephone tag for a couple of days I finally contacted the nurse on Wednesday August 8 and she said the test showed some problems and there might be some blockage. I was scheduled for an angiogram on Friday August 10th. I was told if they found any problems they would take care of them while I was there in the hospital. This procedure is also called a catheterization. An opening is made in the femoral artery in the groin region and a flexible tube (catheter) is inserted which is guided up into the heart area. A die is released so the coronary or peripheral blood vessels can be examined and also corrective action (opening up by angioplasty/balloon or stents can be inserted) can be taken
I arrived at noon to register because my test was scheduled for 2:00 and they had to do some blood work and review the results before the procedure. My cardiologist had been called away from the hospital to take care of an emergency case that had been air lifted to a hospital about 20 miles away. I was finally taken to the Cath Lab for the procedure after 4:00.
The cardiologist met with me and my family after the procedure and said that there was a little more damage to the heart than there was before. Also one of my bypasses had become blocked but it was a small one and not that important to my survival, also it was too small for a stent to be installed. The other three bypasses looked good for being twelve years old. No surgical procedure or change in medication was necessary.
After the procedure I had to lie flat on my back for two hours and then I could sit up for an hour before I could be released. Now I am home but can't take a shower until late tomorrow, can't lift anything over 5 pounds for about a week, can't drive for 48 hours, need to avoid bending over or squatting for a couple of days, and am only allowed minimal walking and should try to avoid stairs. We live in a ranch house with only a single step to the family room and one step from the deck to the back yard and just 2 steps from the front porch. I'll have to watch the site where the tube was installed for bleeding or infection for the next two or three days and will have to call 911 if bleeding gets bad. So far there is no indication in the dressing of any blood seepage.
I did not know just what to expect. I was not afraid because I know I am in God's hands and He and I can handle anything that comes my way. I did expect some blockage, and would not have been surprised to have a stent (or a couple of them) installed and kept overnight.
Thank You, Jesus for Your mercy.
You truly are YHWH-jireh, the Lord our Healer.
