Full stop.
Verse 29 carries that theme into the new covenant. If under the law presumptuous sin was treated as a capital offense with no sacrifice possible, how much MORE worthy of death are willful apostates from Christ? Seeing as the new covenant is infinitely better than the old, the punishment for willful sin/apostasy from the new is infinitely worse than under the old.
Vs 29 clarifies what is being discussed: willful, presumptuous sinning after having been "saved". Backsliding is unbelievably dangerous to the soul.
But to conclude the backslider CANNOT be forgiven upon repentance is nonsense, and nowhere stated in the passage.

All very well put.
The statement in bold can correspond to
Gal 5:4, which many seem to
misinterpret. A person is not fallen from grace because he sins; rather,
a person falls from grace because by rejecting the cross and embracing
another means of salvation: be it the Law, works, or one of the two
false religion: the no god religion; or, the many gods religion. Backsliding
does not necessarily condemn; it is the stopping from sliding with self-
justification that condemns.
