Believing in a Lie

hi, I am a licensed minister within the UPC And I have been Apostolic all my life. (3rd generation)

Last night my pastor preached about holiness without giving real scripture. This is quite confusing because I am not versed in the matters of holiness and I do not know how to give answers concerning holiness without hemming and hawwing.

Anyway, my pastor goes on to say that if you believe the lie that charismatics believe you will end up in hell. Well, I was wondering , what if believing in the ideas of holiness as the UPCI puts it is a lie? Would that not send one to hell as well?

thoughts?

Some pentecostals, go by the motto of "better safe than sorry", when it comes to holiness standards. What i mean, is even if they dont have it all right, atleast they can have the comfort of telling god they did their best.
I guess.

Many pentecostals believe the holiness standards are neither right nor wrong. They are just going above and beyond to please God.
If it's neither right or wrong then it can't be a lie, can it?.

when you are told that if you do not uphold standards you are going to hell, then is it not conceivable to be a lie that was told for years.?????

Re: Beleiving in a Lie

When it comes to holiness standards you have to understand that while some apostolics believe them to be absolutes, others do not. Some believe you're going to hell if you don't obey them, others believe that you can still make it in heaven without them. Now there are some who believe you must obey the standards to go to heaven. Others believe if you follow the holiness standards then you're going to hell because they are man made. I think both are ridiculous. I cant see a woman going to hell because she submitted to authority and wore a skirt to please god.

So basically youre asking if telling people the holiness standards are absolute is a lie??? If that is what you're asking then yes I believe it is a lie. However I believe that God will judge does who do not submit to authority. I obey holiness standards out of submission to authority.

I always hated that...when "standards" were preached and not one verse is quoted

Re: Beleiving in a Lie

If standards are true should they be taught from the word?

lets see.....when you are told to uphold standards or you are going to hell for more than 40 years, you tend to think that there is a lie somewhere and it is easy to be disillusioned by what you believe( especially when you feel like you have no strong scripture to back it up with)
