Spoiled by the Revelation
I often wonder, in this day of mass printing, if the availability of His word has spoiled some of us. An argument is made by cessationists that since the word was complete the gifts have disappeared. With that clearly churches like that won't have the gifts.
I thought about the first church, maybe I used my imagination a bit, but from what I've read in Acts and the Epistles I envision a church that met together often. By often I don't mean once a week, every week, but several times a week. And I envision that what they did most of was pray and allow the gifts to operate. I wonder if many Christians have gotten away from that because of the attitude that the Revelation of His word is enough.
His word certainly is enough, for Revelation on God's will concerning issues of salvation etc etc, but does that mean God wants us to pray less now and not have the gifts in operation to minister to one another?

- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Vesta Mangun says
"if the church will not pray, God will not Act"
"God does nothing but in answer to prayer"
God gave the church authority over the world and it's up to us to pray for his kingdom and government and will to be done on this earth.

Re: Spoiled by the Revelation
This got me thinking. The irony of some that come here and point their fingers at us and tell us how unbiblical we are...yet some have said here that at their church if you have a tongue or interpretation to write it down and submit it to a special committee who will vote on it and if approved relay it later to the church...what? Talk about unbiblical
Where does the bible say only certain people can be certified to pray for others? Good grief man.
I thank God I still go to a church that allows the gifts to operate and encourages everyone to be ministers

I think all churches should be like the IHOP churches
