My Desire to Please Him, Pleases Him

I came across this prayer today from Thomas Merton:

"My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me, I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore, I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone."

This really spoke to me today. Sometimes life is messy. There are very often no easy answers. Sometimes we don't KNOW what to do, so we have to make a good guess, and jump. Sometimes the right thing to do is not always clear to us.

But God always knows our heart. He knows when our desire is to please him, even when things are murky, dark, and it's hard to see clearly.

I think that as long as we keep that desire uppermost in our hearts, God is going to continue to lead us to where he wants us to be. Even when I make a mistake, a dumb choice, when the path I took wasn't the best one..... God knows that I desire to please him. He's not going to cast me aside. God doesn't cast aside people who truly want to please him.

Unhappy Re: My Desire to Please Him, Pleases Him

thanks that was very nice and just in time for me , on my pc after prayer night , GOD moved the prayer to be about forgiveness, last week on saturdaynight the church got together to organize a sunday dinner. it was held the next day . well i got things all mixed up and apparently more meat was bought then what we intended everyone brout something. well a certain couple had ten pounds of meat and i asked them to save for the following week because the other 18 pounds of meat were already in marinade. they realy got mad at me and said why did i take it upon myself to change what we had agreed on . it realy was my fault i was recently diagnosed with MS and i get all mixed up at times . only some in our church know this i'm trusting God for a miracle healing . well after i went up to her to ask forgiveness and gave her a hug. she said [yes we have to be truthful when we are wrong ], and yes this is true . but it was the way she said this. i felt very bad but i gave it to God. and yes life can be very hard at times and when you realy want to please God and get into prayer things happen . i'm so glad to have sisters like the ones on aff.
