Healing doctrine: do you agree?

Here is a statement from a certain denomination of their doctrine of divine healing:

Quote:
Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers.
Isaiah 53:4,5
Matthew 8:16,17
James 5:14-16
Now, before you try to figure out which denomination this is from, please answer: Do you agree with this doctrine, as it is stated?

I would agree with that statement. It is my understanding that salvation/healing/deliverance are all the same basic word and that what we call salvation is healing for the whole person -- spirit, soul, and body.

Some say that the healing in Isaiah 53:5 is strictly spiritual healing (forgiveness), and not about physical healing at all. This is one way they have of explaining why divine healing doesn't always happen -- that such healing is not really promised. (I don't know how they get around all the other apparent promises of healing.)

I don't believe that healing is equal to salvation provided for in the atonement.

I don't agree with it. At all.

It is my opinion that the healing of Isaiah 53 is not just spiritual. That is based on what Matthew says in Matthew 8:16-17. That whole chapter is a series of healings and they seem to be more than just spiritual.

I disagree, technically with this statement.

I must say that I have a stronger disagreement with the UPC's Articles of Faith on this subject which says, "... the Lord Jesus Christ paid for the healing of our bodies the same as salvation for our souls..."

This statement puts divine healing on a one-to-one basis with salvation - and that's just not right. Any statement that equates healing with salvation is wrong.

Of course, I could be wrong as well... in which case my offer to visit a Children's Hospital with anyone who says they can heal or "be used to heal" still stands.

We preach salvation in prisons where the sinners are found. Why doesn't anyone preach healing in a hospital where the sick are found?

BTW: I do believe in healing; I just think some folks make too big a deal out of it and end up hurting people and not healing anyone at all.

This was the earthly ministry of the Son of God.
