If Obama Wins, It Will Be Because He Was Lucky

Obama will win, if he does, because of fortune. Bush is at very low levels of favorability, mistakes in the Iraq War created enough years of criticism that his opponents were able in many ways to frame the war in an unfavorable light in spite of being overall successful. The Republicans bungled 6 years of control with undisciplined spending. The economy tanked at the best possible time for Obama, creating the perfect mixture for anti-Republican sentiment. People are voting for Obama because he's a Democrat, because they hate Bush, because they blame the GOP for the economy, because he's black, because he inspires them with his smooth demeanor and eloquence.

But Obama will not win because of superior ideas. Any other time his proposals would have sunk his candidacy. Think about it: tax increases during a downturn in the economy? Spreading the wealth? $3 trillion in new spending? Think of Rev. Wright, Ayers, Father Pflager, Marching with Farrakhan on Washington, the bitter religious and gun folks speech, the gaffes by Biden and Michele. Some candidacies have died for less than half the controversies. Its a Democrat year.

McCain is an American hero. He's humble. He's a proven leader. He knows war. He is vastly more experienced and qualified. He would make a great president. If it had not been for the timing, I believe he would be ahead by double digits. At any rate, he may still pull off an improbable victory.

I dunno....

"luck" would have been simply winning the Iowa primary.

Sen. Obama has an appeal that crosses many borders. He really does.

I am not sure I would use the word humble in describing Sen. McCain, though he does not strike folks as arrogant as Sen. Obama apparently does.

McCain is humble? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! He does know war...that's true. Perhaps that's why he's going to lose.

Deacon,

If Obama wins he will inherit a mess (doesn't matter who caused it, still a mess) & a lot of the things he would want to do will be hamstrung by the
mess he has to clean up.

I suspect he will have to be fiscally conservative.

What is more interesting will be two things,

1. Will he just be a one term President?
2. Will he survive his first term?

A lot of people do not like him.

Interesting times.

Re: If Obama Wins, It Will Be Because He Was Lucky

79% polled say that the country is going in the wrong direction. The Prez's approval rating is 28%. MSNBC is projecting 261 to 174 in favor of Dems in the House.

Joe Scarborough says 'this is a total repudiation of the Republican brand' and 'punishment of the most severe kind for Republicans'. Pat Buchanan pretty much agrees, he says 'we are on the cusp of new liberal era'.

The polls are closed and Indiana is in play for the Dems. That is REALLY bad news for the Reds. Will the Blues get Ohio too?

So, how is this 'luck' for Obama? I think perhaps the Repubs had their chance and blew it. So it that Obama's 'luck' or the Repub's stupidity? I think it's the latter.

Re: If Obama Wins, It Will Be Because He Was Lucky

This article is spot on how Obama won!

(excerpt)

Quote:
Karl Marx is Not the Father of Capitalism

Sen. Barack Obama won for a simple reason: historical amnesia.

The reason Sen. McCain’s “socialism” charges didn’t stick is precisely because “socialism” means little to voters who don’t know what the term even means. Public schools teach multicultural curriculum but seldom if ever the basics of free market economic principles.

Joe the Plumber understands free markets because he’s operated a business. But without proper economic education or real world experience, young people are left in economic darkness.
