We must teach them...

The Word of the Lord...

Deut 6:4-9

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
KJV

The command was clear, “Teach the children and be diligent!”

However, it was a mere 25 years later that we hear “there arose another generation…which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim” (Judges 2:10-11).

What happened? The generation, or span of time, wasn’t even a biblical generation (40 years), but was a single step in natural descent. In other words, the generation that rose up were the youth in the camp.

How could it be that the elders taught the Word to their kids consistently, all day long...when they came in and out, went for a walk, sat down to dinner, and put them to bed at night, they heard the Word of the Lord...

How could it be that when the old folks laid down and died there came a generation that knew not the Way?

How did they get to that place where the next generation served a pagan god and embraced a false religion?

When did they go from “diligence to negligence?”

And, could it happen to us?

Barb - thanks for sharing such a soul stirring post. Makes one stop and think... and yes, it could happen to us. God help us to stay diligent!

I am thankful that truth was taught to me day and night. It was drilled into me until it has become part of what identifies me. I love this truth and I am committed to putting it in the next generation.

You are correct that the Hebrews had it drilled into them but the difference in us and them is that it is not just knowledge today. We have the Holy Ghost and the Spirit actually bring revelation.

I don't just have a head knowledge of truth but I have a revelation of truth. Many people can have a head knowledge of the Word but never receive the revelation of what it is saying.

This I absolutely agree with...

Do you then believe that revelation will prevent us from losing the generations which follow us?!
