Talking Is this sound theology?

I just received an "apostolic" publication and found this quote which I thought was interesting:

"When you're baptized in water in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
actually you're being baptized into Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, when you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost,
that is Jesus Christ being baptized into you."

What say ye?

I say, Huh?

Never heard it put this way. Jesus being "buried in me"? Submerged? Immersed? Dipped?. Would be interesting to read the authors complete statement to get a better idea of ewhat he (or she) is trying to say. But, on the basis of what you quoted...all I can say is...

Huh?

The first part I agree with totally, because that is scriptural.

Rom 6:3 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death"

The second part is not stated in scripture so I wouldn't teach that as doctrine.
A portion of the Spirit of Jesus is deposited into us, sure, but I wouldn't say he is being baptized into us. I can see how someone could think of it that way metaphorically, but that's not something I'd go around stating as being any kind of biblical doctrine per se.

Of course there is no virtue in H20,but to receive Christ is to receive His Holy Spirit.

I agree with the first part. We are baptized into Christ (the body of Christ) when we are baptized in Jesus name. Rom 6:3, Gal 3:27, 1 Cor 12:13

The second part is not in the Bible and is worded oddly.

Baptism is essential in following Our Lord ,but water cannot give regeneration.

I'll let the discussion go on for a little while, then I'll reveal the source unless someone else beats me to it!

*sigh* It is a tragedy that people feel that in order to make a point they must make up some kind of a catch-phrase or slogan or some weird thing.

The even greater tragedy is that if we have made it up because it sounds cute to us, but it's not true...well I'll leave that alone.
