Its almost guarenteed with African Americans, if you die tonight (Sunday) your funeral wont be until Friday or Saturday. Why? Families are spread out from North to South, East to West. For instance with my family, half of us live in the south and the other half live up North in NYC. Its always been like that. You'll find most white people live near their family hence the reason why you die today you get a funeral no later than Wednesday. (plus us black folks tend to be so dramatic in wanting multiple days of mourning i.e. wakes, musicals, eatings at the home and church, more viewings and then the final hooray!) How do I know this? I go to about 75 funerals a year.
HA! You almost made me choke on the cookies I am eating!! My grandmother used to go to a million funerals a year. What is up with that!?

My family is a little different (and yes I'm black). My aunt kinda started something when she chose not to be imbalmed (sp?) so she was burried within 24hrs. I was in AL and had to get to MI in less than 24 hrs if I wanted to be there. Parents said they want the same thing. I personally HATE funerals and I only go when someone throws a tantrum about me not being there, or a friend specifically states they want/need me there.

But I know on my dad's side they tend to be a week later cuz we have older family that wont fly, and you cant get from Az or Ca to MI in a day or 2 without flying. As far as I know its never been about "raising money"....but I'm the youngest of the family and they wouldnt share that kind of information with me anyway.

Re: Funeral With $100 Offering Line (HUH??)

I wonder if I could fake my death and have the pastor take up a big offering for my kids. I could split it 50 -50 with him , that way the more he takes up the bigger his take. Hmmm, but then I might need to switch churches.

You wouldn't have to switch churches.
Let the pastor preach about miracles and how you were raised from the dead,
then make a grand entrance. I'm sure people would be so charged up seeing a miracle like that they will forget about their recent contributions to your widow.
