Right now there is a move across Muslim countries for people to rise up against their governments. We don't know who is instigating it but it may be Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood with the desire to establish an Islamic Caliphate with sharia law across the area similar to the Ottoman Empire before World War 1.

A group of people in Libya have risen up against their leader. Again, we don't know who these people are, who is instigating this, and who is arming them. It seems that some of the people in this group of rebels have fought against us in Iraq and Afghanistan and some have been released from our prison in Guantanamo. Since the government of Libya has reacted to this rebellion by fighting back to retain power, the U.N. and the neighboring Arab countries have asked for someone to go in and help the rebels, so the United States and NATO have stepped in.

I completely disagree with the United States "police of the world" or "global big daddy" method of operation since 9/11 and the Bush era. Of course many of those in charge in the Bush era were members of The Project For A New American Century which stated in their article titled Rebuilding Americas Defenses that this is what they wanted to do. But they also noted that it would take a long time to accomplish absent another "Pearl Harbor type event". About a year later... 9/11. And here we are.

But... purely coincidence. Nothing to see here.

That's been the US policy since Teddy Roosevelt... probably one of the turning points in US politics. Many view our role as a superpower to be unique, and others feel our nosing around in other nations (interventionism) to be part of our defense.

We've let him go on for years. We are just now responding to a 1988 incident? I think this has been previously addressed and dealt with. There is no imminent threat to the US from this leader.

Well, the contention is that they didn't just "fight back" but, and we've seen with our own eyes, that they've completely slaughtered innocent civilians, protesters, and in one case just mowing them over with government humvees and tanks.

Yeah, my reflections on that policy are going back to Desert Storm and Bosnia.
