Carlos Mencia brought up the same point. Here's his take on the origin of the Easter eggs:

Peter and John run to the tomb. They see no one is there. They look at each other... Peter says, "He is risen". John says, "Let's hide the eggs". Peter looks around and says:" Let's blame it on the rabbit". Thus the Easter Egg tradition was born.

One would be hard-pressed to find something that we do that isn't linked with paganism at some time or level. Funerals are a perfect example. After all the embalming process seems to have its roots as a pagan practice out of Egypt.

Easter eggs and bunny rabbits are distinctly pagan symbols of mythology unlike enbalming which has a practical application. If you want to meet the kids in the neighborhood, it is wholly unecessary to practice a pagan custom to accomplish it.

my only limitation for easter is I asked my wife not to buy my kids chocolate crosses... THe cross means more to me than a zit causing hyperactive treat... Chtistmas is wide open... This year I'm scheduling the family to attend a mass on christmas eve.... It would be nice for the kids to see how the real pagans do Christmas...
Calling catholics real pagans is a stretch. The Romans made christianity mandatory. People didn't want to give up pagan holy days, so the religious leaders watered down the holy days to make them acceptable for christians.

True Pagans want nothing to do with Jesus and are adament that their holy days have nothing to do with christ.

Dancing around an altar is a pagan practice, but we don't mind doing it in church!

There was more to the pagan practice of Easter traditions that make it a pagan practice.

For instance, if a woman in the world decided to dress in skirts and dresses everyday and quit cutting her hair, we wouldn't say that she was a practicing Apostolic, right? We wouldn't say that she's practicing Apostolic standards, would we?

Of course not. She's just simply dressing differently than she used to. People do that all the time.

Yet we do the same when it comes to us doing something that pagans also did as part of their pagan rituals.

Pagans did worship as part of their rituals, and that worship was what was important to their beliefs in spite of the rituals performed. I have yet known anyone to worship as the pagans did while hiding plastic eggs full of candy.
