Exactly.

Great post, right thinking.

I'm not about organization either, but who is following the Word.

Ultra-cons put their 40 year old stance on television on par with Jesus-name baptism and talking in tongues... I FIRMLY believe that.

Based on the new rules, I welcome the forthcoming infraction...

I would be shocked if very many leave their preachers side. Most of the Ultra Cons believe it is a sin not to stick with your preacher because he is the chosen one to lead you.

Most ultra cons? What do you consider an ultra con? What do you consider yourself?

I do not think you should blindly follow a pastor any more than I think you should blindly follow an organization.

If they follow the Word as YOU also believe then I think you should stay with the pastor and/or organization.

But to assume you should follow your pastor no matter what, then I would have to remind you how many former UPC ministers have changed their stance and left the organization and would not agree that the saints should just blindly follow them.

ALL needs to pray about their decisions.

It has nothing at all to do with being an ultra con. I'm not an Ultra Con and neither is my pastor. Why would someone care whether or not their church belongs to an organization? If you agree with what your church teaches, and you are on line with the leadership, then why wouldn't you support your assembly?

I guess I can't see why someone would leave a church simply because that church removed itself from an organization...not for that reason alone, anyway....

One gets the impression your church has not been very involved with UPC functions, otherwise it would have a greater impact. For instance, what about a family that has been involved in bible quizzing. I can tell you that it would be a lifestyle change to have something like that pulled out from under you. So there are some big issues at stake when turning in the card.

I gave them my personal history (I was opposed to it BEFORE I sought license -- the UPC took a stand against it BEFORE I sought license -- I never would have sought license had they decided otherwise). I wanted them to know that I would no longer be affiliated with the UPCI. I provided them the opportunity to choose how they wised to respond.

I live in a metro area. There are MANY other churches within driving distance, some of which are (in my opinion) VERY liberal. The saints I pastor are staying put. NONE of them want to leave because of an affiliation (or lack thereof). They are part of this church because of the church -- NOT because of the UPCI. We will continue to be who we are and what we are. The card in my pocket is totally irrelevant to our existence. They understand that, so my decision has no bearing on their membership here.
