Ok, I was watching and listening to it off their site. He talks about it there. What you posted is just a small portion of that sermon. He constantly says that God is one, there is one God, etc. It is typical trinitarian-speak. I am of the mind that if he changed a couple of things he said that most UPCers would amen him on a lot of what he says.

I'm not a fighter about trinity/oneness and basically, I think he was wasting his time. But how did he represent the UPC?

All things considered, though, he comes across very arrogant and he, being classic "emergent", is what makes me yell, "I'm not emergent!!!"

Fair enough, but most of what I've heard about trinitarian doctrine has turned out to be accurate. Where there's a gray area is in your less educated church members (theologically speaking) who do believe in "one God"; it's your more educated trinitarians who will talk in circles about distinct persons. It's more like they've learned their "talking points" a little too well, as EDW referenced.

Yeah you are right. I think saying God died on the cross immediately qualifies one as a modalist. I see God as a Triune or Trinity as far as the God head goes. I see it like there is 1 God with different personalities, offices, etc. Only 1 throne, 1 God and no other beside Him.

Probably so, and at the heart of the matter, we aren't that far apart. We do, after all, reference the same scriptures for our belief system. It would stand to reason, then, that some things would come down to fine lines and semantics. That doesn't mean those lines aren't important, though. I think it's important enough to teach my children that there's only one God, and that He robed Himself in flesh to become the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and that He now dwells in our hearts as the Holy Spirit. I see absolutely no contradiction in those statements.

I'll find the longer video and watch it.

Re: Screaming Preaching?

He just said that all Christians believe in the Trinity. He names a ton of denominations then he say, "we all believe there is 1 God in three person, Father, Son and Holy Spirit." He says that directly before the video you posted. In the video he does mention tritheism too. He mentions it when talking about Mormonism and before he talks the UPC.
