Do they take the ring out when they have a cold?

I saw this guy with the weirdest ear lobes? He said that he has to take the disk earrings out because it's against his work dress code. I'm thinking, "Dude, your hanging ear lobes are just really sick looking. What is in your mind?"

I guess he could rub them when he gets nervous or something.
