Re: UPC Pastor Convicted of Slander in Pulpit!
I know it's been linked to already, but if you haven't read it, check out the spiritualabuse.org web site and the article detailing this mess. This is a fine job of writing. The writer has researched the details and has been in contact with the lawyers and other key players in the drama.

There IS a "silver" lining in the clouds though...
Angela Driver's new UPC church can buy new carpeting and chandeliers with the $50,000.00 "tithe" money.
God works in very mysterious ways!

You can hold the organization accountable if they condone the behavior.

If the organization was condoning the behavior as a unanimous whole, then you would have an issue. Yet, contrary to popular hopes and wishes, not everyone who is a minister in the United Pentecostal Church International is looking to skin a saint from over the pulpit.

What I think is interesting is that it seems we never discuss the agita the people can cause ministers who are trying to build a church, or work with a church family. How many pastors ever dragged offending parishioners into court? There have been times that has happened, but alas it would still be the preacher's fault, and his organizations problem.
I can understand that the United Pentecostal Church International is always the whipping boy. It may be due to there consistent fortitude to overcome all the whiners who are constantly praying for their demise. I guess they have broad shoulders to bare the weight.
Yet, some people never miss an opportunity to make good use of a disaster, and spread the horrible story to one in all. It's understandable that men who are in the position of authority, may let the authority to over step some boundaries, and they pay for it. They pay for it in more ways than one.
Let's just remember there are bad apples on both sides of the pulpit, which we cannot hold an organization accountable for those few bad apples.

My friend, I understand your defense of the UPC, but this case warrants discussion. Just maybe it will be helpful for other leaders to avoid such self-serving decisions. Why can't we discussion difficult situations with maturity and deal with them from a position of understanding.
