Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

A Baptist pastor was shot & killed in the pulpit today at First Baptist Church, Maryville, IL - close to St. Louis. It's a church that seats 1,000 and they run four services. I guess several people witnessed the shooting, and then I understood that more people were either shot or stabbed, and I think one of them is dead. The shooter tried to stab himself evidently, but he is still living. I pray that God gets a hold of him before it's too late.

Wow. This is horrible.

And it happened during the church service too.

MARYVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police say the pastor gunned down at a church in a St. Louis suburb used a Bible to deflect the first of four rounds fired during his Sunday sermon.

State Police Director Larry Trent says the Bible exploded, producing what appeared to be confetti.

Trent says about 150 people in attendance initially believed the episode was a skit being performed as part of the service at First Baptist Church in Maryville.

WOW!!!

Can you imagine how traumatized these people will be? A church is supposed to be a SAFE place to be. How could you feel safe going to a church after watching this happen? I'm not sure I could, if I'm being totally honest.

Maryville is 25 minutes south of me.

Things like this just don't happen around here.

Horribly, horribly sad.

I read that it's a town of only 7000 and the church was about 1200. That's a good percentage of the town; I'm sure it will take a long time for that little town to recover. That pastor had been there 22 years!!

And some don't think security in churches should carry guns - - - crime shows no respect!
