Is that biblical grounds for divorce?

Pel,
It appeared to me that he spoke on what he thought were sexual sins and said she committed ONE of those.

One thing I do agree with everyone on - we need to be very careful how we address any type of sin over the pulpit. If it is done in love, that is a different story. On another token, a person who is engaging in sin and doesn't want to let go is going to be offended and it wouldn't matter how much you loved them or how careful you were in the handling.

My point all along is that there was no need to justify the pending romance of the preacher's daughter and the divorced man. The problem is that we have a culture that is built upon SELF justification AND NOT the free and gracious justification that is available through Jesus Christ. By all accounts the "divorced man" was a "victim of divorce!" The manual already handles that. Let it be!

Someone here has gotten the Gospel wrong and it has cost us over $500,000. How much has this bad theology cost us over the course of the last 65 years?
You don't know if that was what he was doing and neither do I. Again, he should have been more careful, but we don't really know the whole story. Everything is simply speculation.

'Found' is just a word that the news story used. Doesn't automatically mean he was shocked. He was more than likely upset about her wearing a bikini, but if he had thought she was having an affair, he would probably have said so since they were obviously looking for a reason to okay his marriage to the pastor's daughter.

Whether or not the woman should have been wearing a bikini is really completely irrelevant to this story. She was accused from the pulpit of committing fornication, which she denies. That's the story.
Yeah. When she made that claim she was literally betting $500 Gs that her "innocent" plea was going to hold up in court.

I'm not on the "bikini" lady's side any more than I'm on the "grumpy old preacher's" side. If the Gospel had been preached or even slated to be preached that Tuesday night, none of this would have ever happened.

Again, if he loved her, the bikini incident could have been worked through. It's just that I can't imagine something else wasn't going on before she got to that place.

Pel
, what gospel was Jesus preaching when he said

But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Or maybe justifying his own indiscretions ... since we are speculating.

Re: UPC Pastor Convicted of Slander in Pulpit!

So what we have here is a lot of conjecture, a divorce, a divorcee who wanted to marry the pastor's daughter and is now in ministry according to the church website. We have a pastor who stood and announced that the ex-wife had done something shameful but didn't say exactly what, and inferred that it was much worse than it actually was. Which is deceitful and actually breaks one of the Ten Commandments. And we have a woman who asked for the deceitful statement to be retracted on two occassions and was ignored the first time and denied the second.

Wearing a bikini didn't cross the Bible like the announcement from the pulpit did... She wore a bikini, but the pastor bore false witness against his neighbor.

Does anyone think wearing a bikini is worse than breaking one of the Ten Commandments?

But, what if it was an issue, in the church, and he needed to address the congregation so that they could move on? Sometimes that has to take place.

I could see him as an Apostolic minister seeing this woman in bad standing with her actions. I still don't see her dressing in that fashion if she wasn't already acting out in some way. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm not going to prance around in a bikini unless I've worked my way into that state of mind. It started somewhere and it wasn't with my bikini. I just ended up in the bikini. JMO.
