Their name used to be The Clarke Brothers, and they wanted another name similar, so I think Sons of Sylvia was due to THAT concept, not to mimic Kings of Leon.

That was big time entertaining! LOL!

I remember because I was there. Then they had a gathering afterward at the Yandris house and I was able to meet some the boys. One of them told me the story of how they got out of their contract.

Sylvia is their Mom's name, so it works.

I am sure there are hoping to follow the precedent of some other pentecostal PK brothers who found a slight bit of success ... Kings of Leon.

Sounds like you and I will think alike on this one!
But I LOVED the Clark Brothers on "The Next Great American Band". Amazing that a 3-piece bluegrass group with no bass and no drums could dominate like they did. I put it all on DVD and I still watch it occasionally.
But Freddy? Uhhhhh......

KoL are having more than slight success. IMO, they are one of the best rock bands to come along in the last decade. It disappoints me that they've chosen secular music as their art, but there's no denying they have talent.
The Clark Brothers actually did really well on the NGAB, but I read an article somewhere that said the recording company that awarded them their contract for the win went bankrupt. Hence the name change to Sons of Sylvia and having to start again from scratch.
Both bands are very talented, although they are polar opposites to one another.
IMO, ultra conservative religious backgrounds have produced some of the best musicians and singers because they were free of tv/video game/multi-media distractions growing up. When all you have to do is sing or play music, you can easily become the best there is. There might be a lot of musical talent wasting away in front of a Wii or Xbox. I know my 7 year old loves to head for the keyboard whenever I tell him that tv/wii time is over for the day. I wonder sometimes what other interests my children would develop if the media was completely out of the house.
