What About Those Jonas Brothers?
Are anyone's kids enthralled with the Jonas Brothers? Not only is their music incredibly popular now, but there is a G-rated movie coming out really soon featuring them. Their dad, I think, is on staff at Christ for the Nations, and they are supposedly really solid Spirit-filled boys. Their image so far seems to be pure, and a great example for young teens.

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
I know they wear purity rings and are not ashamed to say that it's a pledge to stay pure until marriage. I think that alone sets a great example for our young people.

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
Thankfully... my kids are not.
Nothing against them... I don't know much about them other than kids go nutso over them.
If my kids would have anybody that they really like and would want to see it would be one of their favorite Contemporary Christian music artists and I am very pleased with that.
Just the other day my wife took them to a Toby Mac concert.
They are big fans of Toby Mac and several others.

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
Sherri,
I pray for the Jonas Brothers that they can maintain their great Christian stand and be an example for American young people who are in sore need of moral role models to look up to.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
Another group of upstanding teens ! God is using them for a positive influence but hey , it's not their fault that teenage girls can be a little skitso over teen boys .
Amen ?

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
They don't sing gospel music do they?
I don't teach my kids "You'll go to hell if you listen to that garbage" etc...
My kids listen to some music on occasion that isn't gospel based and that is fine but they build their listening habits around songs about God.
I don't know anything about the Jonas bros but I would prefer my kids listen to songs that talk about, praise, worship & lift up Christ.
I went to youtube and listened to one song...
Quote:
I'm slippin' into the lava
And I'm trying to keep from going under
Baby, Ooh, turn the temperature hotter
Cause I'm Burnin' Up Burnin' Up For you baby
|
I am sure that they are pretty good kids... But it is just secular dancing music about your standard fleshly issues that is delivered by some clean cut boys.
Increasingly.... not a big fan and not desirous that my kids get caught up in all that.
Where do kids go from here? Back to Christian music? That is doubtful.
Please don't take me as knocking anyone elses decision but it just doesn't seem like a move I would make with my kids.

My oldest daughter likes The Jonas brothers,I figure there is far worse things she can listen to.
She also likes TobyMac.

I'm going to get knocked for saying this, but if I had a choice of the Jonas Brothers and TobyMac....I would choose Jonas Brothers.

Re: What About Those Jonas Brothers?
Oh no- not those Jonas brothers- they're even mentioned here on AFF!
My youngest sister (age 12) loves those Jonas Brothers and has posters of them in her room. I had to sleep in her room one night, because I had given a guest my bed, and my sister was sleeping at a friend's house, and I was surrounded with all those Jonas Brothers pictures- it was WEIRD.
Needless to say, not a big fan, and not a big fan of the way my sister idolizes them, and as for them being "Christian" my guess is if they are HG filled they are charismatic, and in need of a Bible Study and apostolic truth. If they got saved, they would probably have to give up the band or change their ways. All of that popularity for any saint of GOD is probably not a good thing, and the prayer of a real Christian needs to be one of humility.

You won't get knocked by me.... But I can't say I understand it.
Give me kids listening to this...
Sometimes it's in an instant
Sometimes we wait for years
But it comes down to the moment when faith eclipses fear
Your wandering is over
The other side is real
You've broken through
Your mountain moved
And mercy is revealed
His mercy is revealed
Over this....
I'm slippin' into the lava
And I'm trying to keep from going under
Baby, Ooh, turn the temperature hotter
Cause I'm Burnin' Up Burnin' Up For you baby
Anyday..
