In a way, the only way to truly prevent that is to find a way to grant them the rights they desire, however legally classify it differently than marriage. The civil union could actually prevent them from winning full blown marriage.

What's the difference between civil union and marriage? Sounds like a marraige in a different dress.
And do you think they will be content with civil unions? I don't think so, they want marriage. Homosexualality is an aggressive spirit.

Civil unions provide them all the same rights as marriage without exceptions. However, legally they are not documented as "marriages". Legally they are not "marriges" they are "civil unions", a private contract that bundles the same rights that married folks have for them. It's just a social institution framed by the government to provide rights without altering the original institution. Yes it is a compromise... but if we don't strick a compromise... they'll push for full blown marriage, and as sure as I sit here they'll get it.

Here's the deal, if they have "civil unions", they can't argue that they dont't have exactly the same rights as married individuals. Therefore their appeals to the Supreme Court stand a strong chance of being rejected since there isn't a civil rights violation. So they can push all they like, there's little chance that they will anywhere with it if they have civil unions.
It's a political compromise to protect the original institution of marriage from being legally altered.

lol
Because anytime anyone voices any interest, support, or alignment with Democrats all some of our brothers do is hurl accusations of supporting abortion and gay marriage. It's immature I know, but it's a reality those of us who aren't Republican.

Personally I wish a party would step on the scene and be more like me. Someone who is more balanced than either of the other two and for me and not themselves.

Would be nice. Of the two primary parties, I favor the Democrats. However, I have strong Libertarian political leanings.
