Need Help with Musicians website
If anyone knows of websites for musicians, preferably guitarists, please post them. I have Larry Carters, but I need more for ideas and to see what others are doing as far as listing resumes, selling CDs, taking on students and being available for gigs.

- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Nashville Musician Magazine is going to go with joomla - whenever they get their content filled in. http://www.nashvillemusician.com/magazine/
I like joomla because it's easy to plug other people's content into, but even after you apply templates and css you still end up with a cookie cutter look.
http://joomlajuice.libsyn.com/ a joomla based site with ipod download widgety thing.
Or you could go the ubiquitous myspace route. The nice thing here is that you will get some spill over traffic from larger myspace sites and also the plugins are easily managed. http://myspace.com/tommartinmusic - an example there.
I don't recommend http://kissonline.com/ .
Just some thoughts.

What are the advantages of using Joomla? How exactly do you incorporate it into a website with the HTML and CSS etc? I can use Joomla and I think Ruby on Rails, but I haven't really read up on these things yet. I think RR uses several technologies together, Javascript and PHP plus a javascript library. How hard is Joomla to learn?

Sorry... got busy for a while. If you install joomla into the root directory then the whole site is "joomla." All content is managed in one of the three levels of heirarchy. You can design your own templates- both for the backend and the frontend, though there are tons available as well.
Using the backend interface is somewhat limiting, according to experienced web designers anyway. The main advantage of joomla is that you can set it up and turn the site over to a newbie with relative confidence. I'm not famaliar with the new 1.5 version that's coming out since it hasn't been released as stable yet. The hosts I use shy away from that.
If you're not afraid of coding, joomla can be even more versatile than what most people use it for. The layout is completely within the css. It's worked for a lot of people and it's a step up from the "nukes" (phpnuke, .NETnuke, etc). 1.5 is supposed to support the ajax style widgets more.
I've been watching Charles Johnson at www.littlegreenfootballs.com. He's been converting a totally propreitary blog application to be more ajax friendly and to run in a clustered server enviroment. He gets huge traffic numbers and his transition has been pretty seemless. He has some good kung-fu (as they used to say). He has designed all of the api's himself, in between his hippy jazz guitar sessions.
