Lexmark 2500 scanner vs Word for Windoze
I just got a Lexmark 2500 copier, fax, scanner, printer thingy.
I tried to scan something as a "document", and the thing tried to save it in Word. Problem is, I have not activated my Word (lost the registration code for the 'free 60 day trial'), and I do not know how to change my 'default word processing program'.
Any advice on how to set WordPad or WorksProcessor as my 'default' word processing program so the stupid scanner will save documents to it instead of Word?
I looked and searched and explored and troubleshooted (!) and helped and everything else, but cannot find zippidy doodah about how to change my 'default word processing program'...

By the way, did you guys see the PM article on the 72 dollar home-built PC?
They said you could get mem sticks for 'free' by 'salvaging' old ones... LOL!

Take the machine back and get an HP all in one.
Then read this story how you can have Open Office for Free.
Read the reviews on Lexmark and see why I said to take it back.

Double click 'My Computer' Open Tools Menu, Select Folder Options.
Click File Types tab. In the Registered File Types list scroll down to .doc extension. In the 'Details for .Doc extension' text box click the Change button.
Choose a different program by selecting its executable program (.exe).
Then click Apply and OK.
That is how you change associations. If that does not help, reply to this thread with more details.
After all of that, go to www.openoffice.org and download their free suite. It's the best Open Source Office productivity suite out there, and compatible with Microsoft Office.

It does not have to be Word that is for sure. The settings for what to save it in should be in the OCR software (Optical Character Recognition)
As for the default WP, if it's trying to save it as a RTF then try right clicking on a RTF file and then properties and then change the settings for which program you want to open that file to some other.
Also have you tried Openoffice.org?
Or try uninstalling the WORD program too

I use Canons. I used to get Lexmarks because they were cheaper, but I found out they really were cheaper....get my drift? Also I got tired of replacing the entire ink container when only one color went out....I don't know if they have changed that with Lexmarks, but with most Canons you don't have that issue and I have found great deals on Canons and all my Canon printers work great. I have a canon scanner too that is self powered through the USB cable and very low profile
