I likened Seagraves actions to be similar to advising me to go and consult with the devil to learn the "truth" about "soul sleep"! What Seagraves was not aware of was that I had in my possession a DVD in which the defrocked ex-Baptist theologian accused the UPCI of being cultic, and that "speaking in tongues" was of the devil.
I would have thought that Seagraves, being the learned biblical scholar that he proclaims himself to be, would have been aware of the credentials of the man who wrote the book that he advised me to purchase and study.
This incident happened more than 10 years ago, and I've never listened to a single sermon, or speech concerning Bible doctrines by Seagraves since, nor do I intend to!

Listen, maybe the reason the man offered you the book was "probably" due to its information which he was discussing with you? Whether or not the Baptist who wrote the book was in good standing or not with the Baptist church wasn't the main concern for offering the book. That's just my opinion, but did you read the book? Or did you just research the author and decide that it wasn't worth your time to read what Brother Seagraves suggested?
Also glad you are doing better.

Sorry (again) Mike, Seagraves doesn't teach "soul sleep," and that's why I refuted him.

I purchased and read the book (its still in my library, in fact), even though I already knew quite a bit about the author before I began the discussion with Seagraves.
Thanks for your concern, but I'm not doing better, its just that some days are better than others. On my good days I try to do a little "net surfing" to keep abreast of things of interest.

Excellent that you took the time to read the book even while knowing the status of the author. Still give Brother Seagraves another chance, I really believe his main point wasn't concerning the author's piety, but just to offer you a book which he felt explained his position better than I guess he could?
Keeping your health in prayer, I hope you feel better.

Well I thought you said you believed in it so I was confused. So you have more truth than the renown Dr. Seagraves!
