As in...long, drawn out, overly complicated and dramatic events?

Re: Did you mourn leaving the UPC?

Folks equating a man made organization to the body of Christ, now that is sad.

Agreed. Though, to be fair, I've never run into someone who considered only the UPC to be the body of Christ. However, most ministers I've run into seem to consider only those who are baptized in Jesus name, filled with the Holy Ghost, evidenced by tongues, AND who abide by the general/average outward dress standards that the majority of the UPC hold to. That last requirement is often referred to by the euphemism of "living a holy life."

So, even though we'll be in a church that teaches repentance, baptism in Jesus name, and being filled with the Holy Ghost, I doubt we'll be considered "brothers and sisters" because the church we attend won't teach against men wearing shorts or women wearing pants, etc. We'd be living an "unholy life," I guess.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

This is how me and my family are viewed by some from our former church. I was told to my face because I don't hold the "external" things that I am not Apostolic and am, in their mind, the same as the Baptist preacher down the road. Even though I still (and always will) hold fast to the Apostle's doctrine. Others believe I am in false doctrine and on my way to a horrible place since I am no longer under the covering of God since I don't adhere to standards.

Took me a while to get past the mentality but I am in such a better place now and focused on what God has for me and my family.
