I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation. Were any veins sticking out on his forehead? Did his next sermon tell a story about someone who disobeyed their pastor and died in a horrible fiery car crash on the way home? hee hee hee

Well...not exactly. He was embroiled in his own mess at the time. He took several weeks leave from pastoring the church but did not tell us the real reason. Just said that his doctor told him to take leave because "stress" from pastoring "and such" was making his blood pressure sky high.

Imagine our shock when we found out the real truth. All it amounts to is that we were married by a backslidden preacher.

Yep sounds familiar......but we had to stand in front of the whole church and apologize for going against spiritual authority. That sure was some tasty koo-aid we were drinking back in the day.

So are you still able to work yourself in a rage (at yourself) when you think about what you were willing to do? I bet you can still see his smug expression while you were doing it in your head. LOL

To be honest sometimes I have dreams about all that stuff and most of the time my old pastor is still rebuking me for something.

Randy I am glad we went through all that crazy stuff because that was the catalyst to being set free.

Sometimes I do just shake my head and I wonder what I was thinking.

I understand exactly what your saying. Had things been slightly less crazy, it is possible that the veils may not have been lifted, or at least not for a long long time.

I'm glad I never had anything like that happen, really.....not blatantly, anyway...implied, yes.......to me, so many of the teachings just never made any sense.......inconsistency, illogicality (my word) and just a lot of "do it because the pastor says"........even when I pastored, my biggest struggle was trying to convince people of something I wasn't convinced of.......felt disingenuous....like I was being untrue to myself..........greatest thing I ever did for myself, my family, and any poor congregants who may have had the misfortune of sitting under my tutelage was to turn in my license and resign the church......

No bitterness, just a huge wave of relief.
