There are adult female members of the same family that are married to prominent men in the church. My point is that with that one man on the board he potentially has the backing of dozens of immediate family members! Not to mention the "advice" given to him from his UPCI missionary Dad.
Second man is a very quiet, physically handicapped man that is married to a very ummm strong willed, vocal woman that is the mother of one of TPC's most prominent members/preachers that is an MD. MD=DR=Influence=$.
Third is a business man with more than one business and I believe his wife is of the same large family as member number one!
I can see a number of possible again I say POSSIBLE problems with this set up. But not being one to just point out flaws I could see easy resolve to this with a few simple changes. And let me say that large families should not be discounted to hold positions of responsibility just because of their possible dominance in sheer numbers. It's hard enough for my family to figure out how to run the "Christmas get together" so I'm not one to think all family members would or could agree to rally a cause. Ok that said.
Can't the TN District restructure the board? If so why not have a dozen or more men in good standing be placed and every yr or 6 mths rotate two or three off and place two or three new ones? It would be ok to rotate back on if the need arose but with a church this size I bet you wouldn't have to rotate a man back in for a decade. This would keep a certain amount of experience and wisdom in place while bringing in fresh ideas and creative young men that are relevant and current to the younger membership. Surely the TN District can and will do something whether it be my idea or something totally different.

The districts do not have the power to restructure the board even in an affiliated church. The official UPC stance on church government is that the churches are autonomous. the rare exceptions are when the district actually owns the property. This is usually due to the church going bankrupt andy the district ponying up the money to bail it out. In the instances I have heard of, once the church is back on it's feet, the district allows the church to "buy it back" either by some ridiculous transaction like on dollar or by actually giving the total sum back.
At any rate, the UPC is not in the business of owning and running the local churches for the most part.

I have seen so many lies posted. The best one is the one Triumphant 1 did his best to combat. You know, the hair cutting party thing?
Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

More and more I can see the case for biblical pattern of elders overseeeing the church.

I like boiled okra and tomatoes. I add onion, bullion cubes and a tad of real butter. Even my kids gobbled it down.
