Animals, Soul or Spirit?

do animals have soul or spirit? if spirit, is it the same spirit of man? what animates plants and animals, is it the same spirit that is in man? any bible verses?

i did a search after posting and the key verse is eccl 3:21 where is says spirit of man and spirit of beast. both words for spirit are ruach. i am getting at with this is that spirit is consciousness for man, beast and plant life. any comments?

i am also thinking that the holy spirit goes into our heart. if the composition of man is like the tabernacle, where body, soul and spirit is like the outer court, inner court and holy of holies. in this case spirit of man is like the holy of holies and spirit is synonymous to heart. so spirit is composed of consciousness, subconsciousness, heart(where evil thoughts come from), emotion and the holy spirit(with tongues, obviously).lol any comments? am i way off base? i don't know of anyone teaching this subject at this level of detail.
