Cooking Disaster(s)

Last night after work I thought waffles would be an easy meal........
(wrong___ )

Since my husband follows a gluten free diet I made a batch from a gluten free mix. I used a 1950 Sunbeam waffle iron ( belonged to my mother) that weighs a ton and has a ten ft cord....a sure bet it's an old appliance.

I oiled the grids before heating, poured in the batter. 1st waffle ok; did not re-oil, 2nd waffle more difficult to remove. Since he likes extra's to reheat I made another and it bonded with the waffle iron. It was removed in pieces and crumbs.......
At least the sausage was good.

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

Now I hadn't had my waffles yet.....AND the Sunbeam waffle iron not only has a huge mess with stuck on waffle bits it's too hot to touch.

So_________
I made my non dairy recipe and got out my flip waffle iron;< this is not an endorsement since I really don't like it.>

Heated waffle iron, oiled the grids...it states not to use cooking spray.....so I followed the rules....

Poured in the batter; forgot to flip it....only one side cooked; made another waffle, this one so so....I too wanted one for another day so I made the 3rd waffle. It also bonded with waffle iron and once again I had pieces and crumbs....
Made a great mess on the counter.

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

My mom was a great cook but waffles were not served very often.

Her recipe required you to beat egg whites separately etc. They were
verrry good.

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

Even though I love breakfast foods it would appear that I should stick with pancakes and french toast!

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

Waffles are best ordered at good restaurants that know how to do them right. Never made at home. Too much work. Too much mess.

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

I would love for you to post her recipe.

I generally cheat and buy Krustease Pancake Mix, you only add water for pancakes, and I think you add eggs for waffles.

Really, really great pancakes!

So easy!!

pancakes are easy to cook but tricky. at first you will really find it hard. timing is important. after few tries of cooking pancakes, you will eventually get the right way of cooking it.

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

I make pancakes all the time. Easiest is to use a complete pancake mix u just add water. Get a black and Decker griddle. Eyeball how much water. I always add more than the box says. Use a two inch ladel. I like to use an ice cream scooper with the scraper. I fill up the ladel then pour it into the scooper. Pour about 5-6 pancakes on the griddle. Important, the temp must be 375. Watch them until the edves round up. You can then check one with a spatula. Flip with a thin spatula. Don't use a lot of grease. I fact after cooking bacon and scraping all the oil off I won't use any extra oil. After flipping wait about 30 seconds and check

They come out perfect

Re: Cooking Disaster(s)

Somehow I can't get past eating fried dough with sweet syrup for breakfast. Why not just grab a Krispy Kreme six pack if I'm throwing caution to the wind?
