Well...I read 95 pages of this thread before I decided if I did not stop reading I was going to be sick to my stomach.
No man has the right to announce such garbage over the pulpit to a congregation of people...especially if the person being talked about is not there to defend herself and had not been in that church for months. I don't care how high up in office he may have risen. He needs to pay up since he could not bring himself to retract and apologize to this woman for being a false witness about her. Don't care what he believes she may have or have not did. Sealed lips would have been golden.
Speculation and tongue-wagging has destroyed many a people.
I may be still oversensitive what happened to me in a UPC church over 20 years ago. I had a misunderstanding with a pastor...and it was over absolutely nothing worthwhile. But the fact that I did not agree with him set him off. He would not talk with me about it and try to get the misunderstanding straightened out. It seemed that things were said about me and I found myself to be shunned. When I quit going, as I wrote in another thread, only a 2 or 3 visited me and 1 acted like she did not want it to be known she came to talk to me.
But wait...it did not stop there. I found myself being shunned when I went to another UPC church, then a third UPC church. I finally decided that I was not going to be welcomed in any UPC church. I found out later that when someone leaves a church in this area, pastor's and board member's are called and told "why this brother or this sister left the church". Never mind that nobody bothers to ask the brother or sister their side of the story. The pastor is always right eh?
I still loved God and continue to love him to this day, but going to a UPC church was intolerable when all you got was snide looks and people acting as if you are invisible ... all on someone else's say so.
I endured finger pointing in public stores, yet only a few wanted to know what happened. These few people who asked my side, to this day talk to me. Also a few spiritual folk who walk in the Spirit talk to me.
I understand what this woman feels although I wasn't accused with such a brutal accusation she's endured.
An apology from Fogarty would go a looooonggg way for this woman.
FYI The Reverend Mark Fogarty is now the District Secretary of the Georgia UPCI. He got so much attention from badgering this poor girl that they gave him a promotion! Some even lied for him on the witness stand after they took an oath to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth - they lied. He was convicted by a court of law and then made District Secretary!
And you guys want to know the reasons I left the UPC? The Georgia District was the main reason. Nothing to do with doctrine or standards - everything to do with racism, prejudice, meanness, hatred, hypocrisy, slander, insane rules and regulations and incompetent & illiterate "leadership". I loved those men - I just could not live with them nor tolerate seeing the corruption and looking the other way. Pitiful!
I could not help it - I had to REPOST THIS AND IT IS SO TRUE: "Someone said that the difference between the RCC and the UPC is
that in the RCC you only have to kiss the pope's ring......"
someone said that the difference between the RCC and the UPC is
that in the RCC you only have to kiss the pope's ring......
this is pretty funny

I guess when I see threads from a while back be ressurected after a period of being dormant, it makes me think of certain lyrics from the old Randy Travis song "Diggin' Up Bones."
"I'm diggin' up bones (I'm diggin' up bones), exuming things that's better left alone..."
We can beat the horse dead and strip it of its skin, muscles, and bones. It's no more dead after the fact than it was beforehand.
I think some peopole honestly find it thrilling to keep the pot stirring, no matter where they stand on what issue...

Well, isn't it more efficient to start re posting on an old thread rather then start a new one on the same subject?

Yes, I would agree with you. I think, though, that the substance, rather than the subject (persons involved) could be discussed. It's one thing to discuss a topic or situation going on. It's altogether different when names are mentioned, especially involving situations like this one...
I didn't take the time to read all 100+ pages of the thread. I don't know if there has been any reconciliation with all involved or not. To err on the side of grace, for all I know everyone has moved on and forgiveness asked for/received.
If we relied on the Macon newspaper to update us with the forgiveness aspect of it, we'd be fooling ourselves since the media is so well known to play on people's emotions and constantly look for something to stir up.
From my understanding, everything has been resolved some time ago (both legally and otherwise) and people are moving on.
But yes, it is a bit bothersome, if what AB says is right, that one of the central figures in the case got a promotion. Maybe the feeling is that he was "persecuted for Christ".
