I think I remember reading on the old board that Tommy Tenney had been to their church but didn't realize it was for their Anniversary Service. I looked at their church website carefully, but couldn't see that the speakers for the special services were listed. Maybe I overlooked it.
I had the privilege of spending 4 years on the McGruder Bus from 89-92. People saw us for about 1 hour or so at nite. The rest was travel and pressures of the road. This was early in my walk with God and i must say that Sis McGruder is one of the finest christians i have ever met.
I never saw or heard anything from her in those 4 years that was anything less than the epitome
of a saint of God. She would be up at 6 every morning praying and reading regardless of our intense schedule and she was always ready to talk about the goodness of God and anything else seemed to be trivial.
She never was a performer, she was a conduit from the throne room and many nites at our concerts i would weep as i saw God mightily use her to minister to someone as the Holy Ghost
would sweep across the place.
I will always cherish those 4 years and the positive influence that Sis McGruder had on me.
I dont see her very often but when i do it is a special moment.
When i heard the news today i had to reflect for a while on the memories of the past and at the same time look forward to the hope she has in God.
My prayers and thoughts are with the McGruders. God is Able!!
I sent my mom an email telling her about Sis McGruder, as she thinks so highly of her as well.
And I said Mom.. I sometimes don't understand God. Sis McGruder is such a beautiful lady, inside and out.
And my mom replied with these words...
"God isn’t like us at all. He has reasons for everything but expects us to walk by faith.
First century Christians were thrown to lions etc – no medical care or expressions of love and comfort to ease the transition
Eternity is something we have a hard time grasping.
Great cloud of witnesses that God keeps his word. He loves Sis McGruder as much as these

I prayed for Sis. McGruder while scrubbing the kitchen floor this morning. It wasn't planned. Now it strikes me that Sis. McGruder has probably done this many times. Lord, help Sis. McGruder.
somebody went to one of her concerts and did a song about it later
"she sang I'm a going home with Jesus and I'll tell you right now I believed it it looked like she was a waving goodbye....she sang You can go to the Master if you've been Saved by Grace...folk came to the meeting a singing and shouting there wasn't a dry eye in the place"....
I think that is how the song went..

LPW, this is so right, while I wish the very best for this sister and would hope and pray health and recovery - the will of God is quite often a difficult thing to discover.
The prayer that is most needed in Pentecost is not one to rebuke demons or to speak a special quip of faith, but one that truely seeks for, and submits to, the will of God through our Lord Jesus.

My sister just called me. She just got off the phone with Sis. McGruder, and asked me to share this with all of you:
Sister McGruder said that before they ever got the reports back about the cancer, and found out that there are some spots of cancer in her bones, the Lord had already given her this scripture:
[included for context] Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.]
Psa 34:20He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
My sister was very upset and worried, but Sister McGruder is so full of faith, and she is certain everything will be alright. (There are other personal matters at hand as well, so everyone needs to pray, pray, PRAY!)
They are starting chemo ASAP.
