The "free, free, free" wasn't my favorite thing--I like sticking with more traditional versions--but it wasn't as ruinous as the youtube poster wanted everyone to think, or as some on here have stated.

In reference to singing in general: Simplicity is way underrated.
I agree with you.. I like traditional in those types of settings...

The vocal quality and unconventional style will still show through..... but I stuck to the more traditional... just a little soul at the end...but didn't do no "free, free, free" stuff... I will leave that to choir songs... lol

I would love to see a video of that.
I have pictures, but no personal video of it... it was Summer of 1992..

We didn't buy a personal camcorder until after Bekah was born... actually Christmas of 92.

Re: Micky Mangun Criticized 4 singing of Natl. Ant

Her mistake was to sing with a marching band..the only singers I have ever heard pull that off correctly was Fleetwood Mac...and of course the world's BEST marching band, USC USC USC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If she would have used a soundtrack, she would have pulled off the "free, free, freeeeeeeee" better, it was the bands fault, not hers IMO.

Re: Micky Mangun Criticized 4 singing of Natl. Ant

I browsed over some of the comments by YouTube members, and some were just downright nasty. But, you have to ignore people. Some will say anything to get a rise out of people. For some reason some tried to make this a 'Pentecostal' issue; which it is not. I have two opinions in regards to Sis. Mangun's singing the National Anthem.

First, singing the National Anthem is not as easy as some deem it to be. It is unknown whether or not she was able to practice with the band/orchestra; which makes a difference. Having played in orchestras from elementary to junior college I can understand that; and have been in that position. Sometimes having a 'feel' for the musical style of the singer, helps out tremendously. It is just up to the musicians to follow the lead of the singer. She sang the song they way she felt to sing it. It was not my personal liking, however, music is interpreted by each person differently.

Secondly, we (Apostolics) see so many sing the National Anthem that don't even believe in God and would do anything to remove our right to worship Jesus Christ freely. Let me repeat that freely......freely.....freely. So, it was nice to someone of precious like faith sing the National Anthem. Seeing as how our nation was founded on Christianity; it is nice to have see a TRUE CHRISTIAN, sing the National Anthem. I look at her singing more symbolically than how the performance went.

Respectfully NewWine
