Our church has always had a morning and evening Sunday service. However, when we were still in the old sanctuary, we had split sessions to accomodate the crowd. A lot of people chose only one service to attend. Now we are having both services in the new sanctuary and some have gone back to attending both services. It is true though...... when you get in the habit of going only once on Sunday, it takes a while to get back in the habit of going twice....

I knew this but I didn't want to offend Thad by correcting his MISinformation. I'm glad y'all have both services in the same auditorium. I went to both a while ago and were they ever different. I don't mind if service styles change ala music, moods, quiet, yelling shouting, or crying...it was the change in the "vibe" get what I mean?

I just found out yesterday...when I went to the UPC here in D...that they are going to be having "Church at the House" for the next two months on Wed night. Community groups meeting in the designated home, teaching a lesson prepared and controlled by the pastor...
I knew this had His daughters hands in it, no way anyone else could have talked him into it.
I suppose now, if I go, I will have a live forum in which to get people angry. Naahhh, don't think I will even go, however, they did pull a coup de gras and have one of my greatest friends to be a facilitator...and who lives across the street from us.
Never thought it would happen but I was also told it was in part because they are going to do a major renovation in the sanctuary.

I am glad these two churches have gone back to the New Testament example of having church twice on Sundays!!!!
We all know what a big point Jesus and the Apostles make of it in the Gospels and Epistles.

I would never get rid of our Sunday night church. The AM & PM services are totally different the AM service is a teaching service and the PM is a jubilee service.

There were several different reasons for him doing this.... I now go regularly to both services. The Sunday PM service was not necessarily for the youth - it was just geared more "contemporary" and that appealed to the youth. Not necessarily to some of the rest of us. That was going on for about two maybe three years. I guess it depends upon someone's definition of "sluggish". Yeah, some of the people come in and sit back - but Pastor doesn't allow that for very long. Several of the PM services have turned into prayer meetings.

CC1,
you know good and well most people today only go to church on sunday. mid service is often more than 1/2 empty ven in UPC churches.
so you think once a week is fine ?
I think today's christian who gives their entire week to career, family, recreation, ought to give God one day at least

You should go. At the worst they good live up (down) to your expectations in what happens and at best you could be pleasantly surprised, and might be better understand by them after a little interaction.
You could always keep my cell number on speed dial so I could catch the next Frontier Air flight out to rescue you if they tie you to a chair for an exorcism!!
