Re: Sen. Ted Cruz Makes It Official
I read a headline a few days ago that Ronald Reagan's former economic aide, Bruce Bartlett, ripped FoxNews.
“[i]t can almost be called self-brainwashing — many conservatives now refuse to listen to any news or opinion not vetted through Fox, and to believe whatever appears on it as the gospel truth.”
Truth!
“I don’t think that word ['self-brainwashing'] is too strong — I think many conservatives live in a bubble, where they watch only Fox News on television, they listen only to conservative talk radio — Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, many of the same people.”
I stopped listening to Limbaugh and Hannity back in 2006. I had to. I was so stressed and angry after listening to them back then, that it was affecting my whole outlook.
“When they go on to the Internet,” he piled on, “they look at conservative websites like National Review, Newsmax, World Net Daily, so they live in a universe in which they hear the same exact ideas, the same arguments, the same limited amount of data, repeated over and over again — and that’s brainwashing.”
I read articles on National Review and Newsmax sometimes, but rarely anything from WND. I also make it a point to visit lib sites like HuffPo and Daily Beast to see what's being posted there.

I rarely read anything on WND, very rarely listen to Hannity, et al. There is so much lying on MSNBC, I can't listen to them. What I do when an issue arises - I search the subject and see what everyone is saying about it - liberal and conservative. AND I always check with the source. IOW, if I read a headline about Ted Cruz, I go to him and read his words - the horse's mouth.
Right now the Left is hounding him about asking for Federal relief for the Texas flooding issue. They are criticizing him for pushing against the Hurricane Sandy relief.
After research, you find that the Democrats had marked up the relief bill with "pork". They knew, as they always do, that if the Republicans pushed against it, they would be viewed as obstructionists. Same thing happened with the so-called government shutdown. Anyway, Ted Cruz was against the "pork", not against helping the Sandy victims. Ted isn't asking for "pork" in the Federal funding for Texas. The Democrats are using this crises for political points and the Left are eating it up in dishonest glee.

He was saying that 2/3 of Americans think that the country is going in the wrong direction. Then he states statistics of how we are more liberal than conservative. How in the world does that add up? It makes no sense.
He has Watter's World interviewing potheads, mostly, and wants us to believe that is indicative of ALL of America. It's just dumb.

Another example is the statistics of gay people. I agree tht 2/3 of Americans think we are going in the wrong direction, but O'Reilly's stats don't add up.
Americans Greatly Overestimate Percent Gay, Lesbian in U.S.
[A]ll available estimates of the actual gay and lesbian population in the U.S. are far lower than what the public estimates, and no measurement procedure has produced any figures suggesting that more than one out of five Americans are gay or lesbian.

Re: Sen. Ted Cruz Makes It Official
Cruz Threatens to Subpoena Treasury Officials to Testify About Obamacare Rules
Sen. Ted Cruz is warning he might seek to compel testimony from the Treasury Department about the Affordable Care Act.
“For two main reasons, this excuse is entirely invalid,” Cruz wrote in a new letter to Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew. “First, Congress retains its right to conduct oversight of the executive branch at all times, regardless of any perceptions of poor timing by, or inconvenience to, the executive branch. The Senate Judiciary Committee has obligations to ensure the proper functioning of the federal government at all times, and not just during windows of convenience for political officials. Second, your Department’s pending litigation justification is without basis, particularly given how you have provided at least one Department witness for the exact same topic during the pendency of other litigation over the last few years.”
“If you do not opt to assist Congress and make all three individuals available voluntarily, I may have no choice but to pursue other options, including compulsory process, to make them available for testimony,” Cruz wrote in the missive to Lew. “Please note, in the event we are compelled to use compulsory process to ensure the attendance of these witnesses, the two-week courtesy notice prior to testimony is no longer applicable, and these individuals can be summoned for testimony at any time deemed convenient for the Committee.”

Ted Cruz speaking at the World Values Gala
Big bucks Sheldon Adelson and his wife were present. He hasn't said who he will put his money behind this election cycle. Adelson isn't really a Jewish conservative.
