James Carville on Ted Cruz
Link
I'm one registered Republican that misses James Carville, the Ragin' Cajun. I remember his Clinton years, CNN's Crossfire and the 2000 election when he was in the media a lot. I don't agree with a lot of what he has to say, but he made his point and was entertaining to watch.
So how does he feel about Senator Ted Cruz? Well, Carville's a Democrat, so he must revile him, right? Maybe he shares Bill Richardson's opinion. Richardson, another Clintonite, said he wouldn't define Cruz as Hispanic. No, really ... here's the Link
Actually, Carville said this about Cruz on ABC's This Week Sunday with George Stephanopoulos:
Quote:
I think he is the most talented and fearless Republican politician I’ve seen in the last 30 years. I further think that he’s going to run for president and he is going to create something. I’m not sitting here saying he’s going to win, and I think Senator DeMint is right. I’ve listened to excerpts of his speech in South Carolina. He touches every button, and this guy has no fear. He just keeps plowing ahead. And he is going to be something to watch.
And a lot of Republicans feel this way, George, and you hear this a lot: "If we only got someone who was articulate and was for what we were for, we would win elections. And we get these John McCains and these Mitt Romneys and these squishy guys that can’t do anything." Well, there’s one thing this guy is not - he ain’t squishy, not in the least.
|
Carville's thoughts on Ted Cruz running for President and possibly facing Marco Rubio and Paul Rand:
Quote:
Ted Cruz is going to eat their lunch. That guy, I’m telling you, he will out debate. I am just saying, he is a talent. I’m not rooting. I’m really sincere here. We watch him, he does things, I mean when he started talking about William Travis in South Carolina and the Alamo, this is a guy, and you go, "This guy is something." Now I don’t agree with him. I think he’s out there. But I’m telling you, he’s more talented than all of these other guys.
|
Now it wasn't all praise for Cruz, because if you follow Carville, he'll throw a word or sentence in his comments which the Democrats will then use as their attack. In this case, the phrase is "I think he's out there." So if Cruz does run in 2016, the attack against him will be that he's 'out there' on every policy that matters to voters.
What do you think, PO?

I was watching George Stephanopoulos's program yesterday when Carville said this. What do I think? We better listen to Carville. He doesn't say things that are not, generally, profoundly found to be true.
This is what I am seeing on-line- a problem with his eligibility. His mother was an American when he was born, his father was not, but later came to be naturalized. Does it matter?
Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Speaks to South Carolina Republicans
Starts around 54:00
http://www.c-span.org/
Touches all issues, as James Carville said. Glad he is especially speaking of the current Admin on their plans to court-martial if someone in the armed forces shares their faith.

I don't see an issue. He was born here; his mother was American when born.
It will be interesting to see how the media and Democrats spin it. They were complicit in ignoring any questions about Obama's eligibility; even considered it racist and unAmerican to question Obama's eligibility. But if there's a question about Cruz, you know they will hammer away at it, even though it completely exposes the media as partisan and the Democrats as hypocrites.
IIRC, the media and a few Democrats had the audacity to question McCain's eligibility because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone, at a military base hospital. And yet, they ignored and ridiculed any question about Obama's birth.

I don't know of any sharp differences between them.
I'm not sure the Christian right will come to support Rand for some of their misconceived ideas about him. And I am finding that even though you go over all the particulars, they don't care. It's another fear factor driving them.
I'd love to see a Rand/Cruz ticket.
The only opposing things I am seeing is that some, mainly Rhinos and the Left, think that Rand is more polite. But, I think people want someone who is more forceful, even though Jennifer Rubin pens that Cruz is a jerk. I'm sure Feinstein agrees with her.
I like them both.
However, South Carolina invited Ted Cruz to speak at it's fundraiser instead of Rand Paul. That indicates to me that the GOP is not going to align with Rand. At least that pretty well shows me what I am seeing on Fox News and in commentary, they mention him, but don't appear to be moving to support him.

My thoughts exactly. What I am seeing are fear induced postings from the Christian right who will jump in and cause confusion - reminding me of the fear factor concerning the election of ORomney. They are already afraid of Rand Paul's libertarian minded views, when he is really a Constitutional Conservative.

Re: James Carville on Ted Cruz
I thought I had just read something recently that Cruz was born in Canada?
I really like them both.
