I was watching a video from chuck missler (khouse.org), teaching against the kabbalah. He did say that kabbalists use to study the text to the point of finding cryptic messages like equidistant lettering. for example, every 49 letters in the beginning of the book of genesis spells torah. the same is for the book of exodus. every 49 letters of numbers and deutoronomy spells torah backwards and every 49 letters in leviticus spells yahweh. message being, torah points to yahweh. there are more examples of equidistant messages in the bible which led many kabbalists to be the first cryptographers in a royal court. missler says this led to code machines during the war and eventually to computers, as machines were designed to break codes.

a point about the hebrew alphabet that i found interesting is that every letter symbolizes a concept not like english where the alphabet is strictly phonetic. for example a or aleph means first, stength. b or bet means house, family. the 2 letters together ab or alef bet means father or first/strength of the house/family, where the 2 concepts of each letter form the concept of new word. very interesting.

one more example. when god changed the name of abram and sarai to abraham and sarah, he basically added an h. the concept of h is spirit. so god added spirit to abram and sarai to become abraham and sarah.

missler has a course on bible cryptography on his website, not sure if it covers all this. this was from a video teaching against kabbalah.

These are the sorts of things that I referred to when I said such elements are very fascinating to the carnal and fleshly mind, and appeals to us in that way. There is somewhat of a tad of thought we may be able to derive, but folks are fascinated by mysteries and secret codes, etc.
