Holliday Challenge:

As we give thanks, we should also remember that even in America, the richest country in the world, 35 million people are not getting enough food to eat or are in a state of "food insecurity".

That is why today, I am asking all Apostolic brothers and sisters to take a small but meaningful action to help those who are going hungry here in America.

I'd like to challenge everyone in our forum to, at some point over the next six weeks, volunteer one hour at a food bank, donate at least one can to a food bank, give one lead-free children's toy to a toy drive - and call on one friend or family member to do the same. I know these efforts are very small, but if enough people choose to meet the challenge, our small acts of kindness will make a big difference for a lot of people this holiday season.

If you're not sure of a local food bank or toy drive here are a few links to get you started.

America's Second Harvest food bank locator: http://www.secondharvest.org/zip_code.jsp

Local toy drive locator: http://www.secretsanta.org/

Happy Thanksgiving and may God richly bless you and yours this holiday season. Let's all remember, we can make a difference.

Good idea...my mom and me donate to our local Food Bank and have for some time now.

The church I used to attend had a pantry stocked full from the FB, and had a list from the nearby elementary schools of families in need...we spent hours boxing up good stuff...

Our youth group just went last week to the homeless shelter to help serve. It made a huge impression on my 13 year old son.

We always do the Angel Tree ministry. And usually our SS class will hear about a local family who is having tough times and we all go together and take care of Christmas for them.

I've been on the receiving end (when my dad had 3 heart attacks the year I was in the 4th grade). I know how important it is - especially when a family has children.
