Who would you pick to build your church with?
If you could only pick one person from each of the below lists and one
free choice (someone not on any of the lists) to help build a church
from scratch, who would you pick:
Remember each would help you in some church role or capacity.
List 1:
List 2:- Joseph
- Moses
- James
- John the Beloved
List 3:- Jacob/Israel
- Solomon
- Apollos
- John the Baptist
List 4:- Elijah or Elisha
- Joshua
- Barnabas
- Timothy
List 5:- Esther
- Ruth
- Hannah
- Mary or Martha
Your Church Problem:- Absalom, as your Assistant pastor and Youth pastor
- Alexander the coppersmith, as your city's mayor
- Jezebel, as your Ladies Ministry leader and kids Sunday School director
- Judas, as your church treasurer and church board chairman
Who are your picks? And why?

Reason: Had to make church problem choices harder.

David
Joseph
Solomon
Joshua
Mary
Jezebel, as your Ladies Ministry leader
David - man after God's own heart
Joseph - wise, need him after Solomon runs off with Jezebel and gets rid of 2 problems
Joshua - bold
Mary - wants to know God more
Jezebel - only one of church problems I could get rid of

Not fair. To deal with those problems you need:
Absalom = Joab
Alexander = John Mark (he knew how to run from a mob)
Jezebel = Jehu
Judas = The Unjust Steward ( Luke 16)

1. Paul, his writing are the basis of Christian theology, how can you choose ANYONE (except God) over him is beyond me...
2. James (change this to John if we are assuming John the Beloved = John who wrote I-III John = John the Revelator... if they're seperate people, then I wanna keep James); James was the true leader of the original church, not Peter. He was the Bishop of Jerusalem, and well, his constant fighting with Paul would be entertaining and keep me on my toes... if its John, I think being beloved and a revelator would be pretty impressive, don't you?
3. Solomon, as long as he's tithing, it doesn't matter if no one else is... Plus it happens to be a mega-church based on his wives/children alone...
4. Timothy; to be Paul's protege, you gotta be pretty cool...
5. Esther; gotta have someone who is royalty to off-set Solomon... Besides, she's alwyas willing to stand up for what's right, I like that...
6. Judas; There is absolutely no indication that he ever stole any money when he was treasurer for Jesus & the 12... and he was SUPPOSE TO betray Jesus, and I'm sure he's repentant... So why not? Besides, he's the only one on this list who really doesn't have a "problem"; Absolom is a rebel, Alexander is... wait who's Alexander?? And Jezebel is... well, we all know what Jezebel is... lol... Judas was never portrayed negatively other than for one transgressino that had to happen... Thus Judas is the choice...

Fun stuff!!!
It's like picking in my upcoming basketball league, except with Bible characters.... hmmmmm, who would i pick???
eeeekkkkk, as much as I'd love to take Paul in the 1st round, I have to go with David, the Psalmist.... he single-handedly rounds out the Music department and had a passionate heart for God.... plus, you'd ALWAYS have new, cutting edge songs.... there's a HUGE drop-off in psalmists after David too; so I gotta go best available....
in the 2nd round, yah really gotta love taking Moses for passing up Paul.... trained in the best schools of his day, as well as by God Himself.... really showed the long-term ability to endure, even during the hard times.... effectively handled a TON of rebels, can't think of a person that could have really done any better.... Moses as the family pastor....
in the 3rd round, i really wanted to pick up John the Baptist as a fire-brand repentence preacher.... but ultimately had to go with Apollos to fill the teaching gap, left by not picking Paul.... the scriptures state that he had a strong grasp on doctrine and the Word, and in another passage that he convert many people as well.... so much people argued as to whether they were followers of Paul or Apollos.... Apollos as the teaching pastor.... definately my sleeper pick of the bunch....
in the 4th round, it was a toss-up between Elijah & Elisha.... sided with Elijah in that he a) seemed to have strong willingness to stand against wrong and b) he was willing to train/mentor the younger generation.... did he perhaps run the school of prophets ( II Kings 2)? (the 1st Bible college?) Elijah as youth pastor
5th round, I'm picking Esther. She understood the importance of prayer, in addition to being a "big picture" person. Esther as SS director and Ladies ministry director.....
Church problem?!?! Don't need to pick those. They come naturally!!! I think the least of all these evils would be Alexander the coppersmith.... it might be alot tougher come time to build the new sanctuary though....

Why should List 5 include Deborah? Stop judging my lists.
If you don't participate by making your picks, stop heckling.

1. Peter - he's bold and can lay things out on the line
2. John the Beloved - he's got a deep grasp of Who God is and of the power of the love of God
3. Apollos - Now that he has the revelation of the fullness of the Gospel, he's a great teacher and can relate to those from both sides of the fence
4. Timothy - he's got youth and zeal
5. Mary - she'll be faithful and listen to teaching, she'll always be there ready to learn and worship
Problem - Judas though he gripes about the money all the time he's not trying to subvert everyone else in uprising
