the good that came out of our loss
I want to take just a minute to share something with you.
Jamie's death is horrible. There is NO question about it. Worst thing I've ever experienced.
But one good thing has come out of it. A long time ago, Jamie talked to her dad (my brother) and told him that if anything ever happened to her she absolutely wanted to be an organ donor.
Rin talked to the doctors the night of her accident. Because she died on impact, her heart could not be donated, nor could most of her other organs.
HOWEVER, they did take what was still usable for someone. They brought a list out to Rin today. A LONG list. They told what they took and then they told non-identifying info on who got it. I did not know that they did that. What a comfort this has been to our family!!!
One of the really, really biggies for my brother was when he read that 3 TEEN-AGE kids received valves from her heart. It's almost like feeling like somewhere her heart is still living. And because of her sacrifice, someone's heart IS living tonight.

That is wonderful and such a great way to make a terrible thing into good for others. I can see where this would completely help the parents!
I commend the parents for granting her desires and in turn helping others!

That's awesome. I always said that if anything had happened to my girls while they were young, I would do that. You never know until you're in the position, but their dad is an EMT and we saw so much tragedy that we had discussed that years ago.
I hope this brings some comfort to them, knowing that her body is giving someone else a fresh chance at their life.

oh, it IS bringing comfort to Rin and Jacki. You should see Rin's face when he tells that Jamie's heart valves have gone to three teenage kids. He absolutely lights up. I'm so glad he has that. It's hard to find comfort in a situation like this so you take it where you can get it.

This is a positive that has developed from a heart-wrenching loss, Margie.
I implore all those who read this to to please consider donating their own organs and other body parts when God calls you.
My family would probably still have Dad on this side.... if there had been enough cadaver organs available. He died, at age 60, after several years on the waiting list for a cadaver liver and an aborted live donor transplant.
After the aborted surgery he insisted on only accepting a cadaver organ ... he died waiting.
I can only wish it would have turned out differently ... and it grieves me daily. I have accepted God's will ...but still wonder from time to time ... WHAT IF?
Thank you Jamie and her family for bringing hope to countless people who will be blessed by her gift of life and love.
Give life.

Thank you for sharing that Margie. I am so sorry for your loss and it is beautiful the way that other young people were able to be helped. Nothing can replace the loss, but new life is always a wonderful promise.

No, Tamor, I haven't seen it. What is it about? Is it going to drain me emotionally ?

Dan,
I was hoping that you would see this and that it would bring you some measure of comfort. We can't do anything more for your dad or for Jamie. But if we can encourage organ donation, perhaps we can help spare someone else this pain that we feel.
