What is the Doctrine of God?

What is the Doctrine of God?

I ask this because it is a question that has come up many times in diffrent conversations I have had. Can we pin it down to one thing? Is it love? Is it Salvation? Is it Jesus? Can it be wrapped up into any one thing or must we take the Bible and the entire doctrine of our faith and is that the Doctrine of God? I think this will be an intresting discussion for us here.

I took this question from another forum I frequent. I thought it was intresting....................

The doctrine of God our Savior is the same as the doctrine of Christ.

Tit 2:10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

2Jo 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Since all scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine...then I would go with the answer you gave in the last part of your post. The doctrine of God is the whatever the Bible teaches about God but especially the new covenant and how all of the OT has led up to Christ in types and shadows.

well, to answer this would take a lot of time but i turn to Allister McGrath's excellent primer "Christian Theology: An Introduction"

Theology is formed of two root words - theos (God) & logos (word), equaling a definition of theology as "a discourse about God" or "God-talk" as my professor in seminary put it. So, one could say that the manner in which we discuss the nature and actions of God is how we form a doctrine of God.

Seriously, get McGrath's book on Amazon - it helped me a lot.
