Is this goodbye?

So last night my 5 year old daughter is sitting in my lap listening to music with me. Out of the blue she somberly turns to me, and in the most serious tone says, "You are going to die". I was stunned. Then she added, "Everybody dies." A few minutes later she walks up to me and hands me a piece of junk mail (keep in mind she cannot read) and says, "I'm playing mail man and this is for you, Daddy." It was an add for life insurance. I'm officially paranoid now

That is off-putting. I would hug her tightly and ask her to remember that I will always love you.

Re: Is this goodbye?

Paul, if I am not mistaken, knew his time wasn't yet up because he had work to do - it was more expedient for those he ministered to that he remain.

Nevertheless, when I read this thread I had the Psalms playing (Alexander Scourby). This is what he was reading:

Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

(Psalm 89:47-48)

As I was typing this, psalm 91 was on.

I think sometimes God reminds us that our time here is in his hands, ultimately. We should be ready at all times to "move up higher". Maybe God is trying to get your attention about something.

Remember, too, Hezekiah...he was told to set his house in order. But he prayed, and God healed him.

Who said I quit church? I will be easing into the house church movement once I've moved from the area I currently live, but I'll never cease to assemble with the saints.

Seriously though, a life insurance policy is very wise to have for your family. I have had one from my mid 20's.

Re: Is this goodbye?

When all of my children were very young (the youngest was less than two years old) my wife's doctor thought she had leukemia. We had an appointment with a Oncologist to do a bone marrow test a couple of days after we found this out. While waiting for that test my wife got a telemarketing call from a local cemetery offering a free plot! It really freaked my wife ought as she thought it seemed like a bad omen.

Oh, by the way we did respond to the offer and I accepted the free plot a few days later. Thankfully neither one of us have needed it.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Is this goodbye?

Has someone you know died recently? It could be that she has a very sensitive heart and has been thinking about death. Seems to me I remember you saying that you had been to the funeral of a young boy who died. It is possible that your daughter has struggled trying to come to grips with the idea of death since that funeral. You may just talk to her some more about it. Just a thought.
