Meat Slicer

I'm toying with the idea of buying a meat slicer so I can cook and slice my own lunch meat, hopefully resulting in a healthy, economical product.

Have any of you tried this?

Do you have recommendations as to what kind of meat slicer I should buy, or where would be the best place to buy one?

Or do you think I would just likely cut my finger off and that would be the end of it?

Interesting question, Amanah. What kind of meat would you be cooking? Are you planning smoking or roasting your own meat?

Also, you might consider how much of the meat you would be able to consume before it goes bad, or would you freeze it?

Re: Meat Slicer

I would simply be buying roast beef and turkey, cooking it, and slicing it for lunch meat.

Quality lunch meat is every expensive to buy and my husband likes his lunch meat sliced paper thin. I can't slice it that thin with a knife.

Re: Meat Slicer

do yourself a favor and skip the meat slicers sold to the public, imo. Go to an auction, maybe even available at amazon after determining what models will work, and get a professional one. i don't have any experience per se with the public ones, but in the thrift store biz we saw lots of them donated; they are toys.

No, I would like to, but I bet cleaning it is a chore

Re: Meat Slicer

i have worked with the pro ones, briefly, many years ago; and cleaning it was my job. Not really difficult at all; but at the same time you won't want to be pulling it out to slice 1/2 pound of meat.

I have an electric one, but you have to take it apart to clean.

Would not recommend a manual one, my ammo has one and they are not easy to use.

Re: Meat Slicer

I've never owned a meat slicer. I'd probly do more
harm to me than the meat I'm slicing!

I buy my sandwhich meat at my local grocers for
about 3.99 a pound for very good meat...ham/roast
beef/turkey. They can cut it as thin/thick as you
like. Even shave it. I've learned we like the slice #4
best!
