Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
And if you did, what sign did you ask for to give you direction? And what were you asking direction regarding?
Or - do you even believe it is something we should do? Do you believe it's a method God uses in present day to speak to people? Or was his interaction with Gideon a one-time deal?

Re: Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
I haven't really studied it out, but I don't believe there is any record in the NT of "fleecing" the Lord. It seems that His spirit within us should be alive and well enough to lead and guide us, without us needing a physical sign to follow. In fact, Jesus taught against following the signs and wonders.
Trying to find out the will and mind of the Lord as we walk through this life can be a challenge. I would recommend reading the book, "Follow me: A Call to Die" written by David Platt... http://www.amazon.com/Follow-Me-Call...=a+call+to+die
It is a powerful book that deals with trying to seek and know the will of God. It deals with the fact that we first must be willing to die out to sin in our lives in order to completely live in Christ, and in doing this, the will of the Lord usually becomes very plain and clear to us.

It shows that you don't trust God.

Well, it is Biblical in that the very concept comes from the Bible. Though I tend to agree with KeptbyrheWord that we should be seeking to follow after the Spirit's leading.
But, I do wonder if there's any place for it when being faced with a serious decision that has large implications. Can fleecing (very rarely, not all the time) help you learn and gain confidence in hearing the voice of God/leading of the Spirit? If one feels very strongly to do something, but it has huge implications and want to be sure, could God/would God use a sign as assurance of his direction? Of course, that would be walking by sight and not by faith....

Re: Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
What about a confirmation? Would that be the same?
I have asked God to confirm things that I felt I should do. Not sure that I ever received it, before the act. However, I have been confirmed after I obeyed, and then shown that it was the right thing to do.
Probably because God wanted me to move in faith, first.

Re: Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
First, IF one is going to "fleece God" the fleece needs to be an impossibility, maybe something to do with the climate. You know like Gideon did, not something that could/would happen on daily. JMHO

Re: Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
If circumstances just seem to line up in such a way that they point to a specific course of action, that is usually good enough for me.
I have yet to hear a "Word of Knowledge" that is any more accurate than a Chinese fortune cookie although there are certainly people who make major decisions based on them -Words of Knowledge AND the occasional Chinese fortune cookie, and the stars, and dice from an old D&D game, and even the infamous Magic 8 Ball that many of us had as kids.

Re: Have you ever tried to "fleece" God?
Back when I was younger, I got "fleeced" by a used car salesman. Does that count?
